Report from the XXVII Gathering

Foremost, I would like to thank our host on that night, the Eastern Promise Bar & Resto www.epjakarta.com , for once again perfect hospitality.

20160414_214559 copy copy

That day (14th of April) was a very popular party day in the city, so because of several other functions happening we could welcome only 35 guests. Among them was the Polish Ambassador to Indonesia, Mr. Tadeusz Szumowski, with his wife Agata; the representative of the Polish Trade and Investment Promotion Division, Mr. Tomasz Piętka; and also the Founder and Executive Director of Red Nose Foundation www.rednosefoundation.org , Mr. Dan Roberts.

As some of you might remember, during our last gathering we managed to collect 5,000,000 Rp to support 5 children from his foundation to go  Poland to take part in the International Brave Kids Festival http://2016.bravefestival.pl/ by selling photos taken and printed by our friend Piotr –   PIOTRJANIW.BLOGSPOT.COM

This time we sold only 3 photos for 900,000 Rp, but with the help of our other member Rob Davies and his generous gift, the Red Nose Foundation could raise much more money for the same purpose.

Rob, who is a football memorabilia collector, has donated his limited edition framed poster called “Class of 68”.

2016-05-11 14.13.18

This is a certified limited-edition poster printed on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the European Cup Final, played at Wembley on May 29 1968, between Benfica Lisbon and Manchester United, and won by MU 4 : 1.

This poster shows the medal collected by winners and also autographs of: Alex Stepney, Pat Crerand, Brian Kidd, John Aston, Bill Foulkes, Tony Dunne, Sir Bobby Charlton, David Sadler, Shay Brewnan, Nobby Stiles, Denis Law and George Best who played that game.

I hope that the value of this is very high for football enthusiasts and the charity donation will even double or triple it.

If you are interested in donating money for Red Nose Foundation by buying this poster please contact directly Dan at  dan@rednosefoundation.org

The moment we heard about Rob’s donation, this photo was taken as proof of the deal.

We had a fantastic time that evening with some new guests joining us at the EP Sports Bar for the first time.

So, to continue our networking quality time, I would like to invite you to join us at our XXVIII Gathering of the Polish Business Club in Jakarta.

See you at the next meeting on Thursday, the 26th of May, details to be included in email.

Report from the XXVI Gathering

Report from the XXVI Gathering

Last Thursday night was supposed to be just one of our regular gatherings, but a small coincidence created a fantastic outcome of the evening.

Let’s start from the beginning.

Our XXVI gathering – the first of this year – was hosted by Molly Malone’s and once again I would like to thank Trevor, the manager of Molly’s, his staff and also Killian & his wife Irene, the owners, who were also present there, for their perfect hospitality. Food and the service were excellent.

The evening, which unfortunately not many confirmed, still yielded a crowd of almost 40 and gave all of us, especially me, a lot of satisfaction.

Fuji_PBCFEB2016-2676Just to remind you: all of our guests who join us during our gathering and leave their name cards with the www link on it, will have their companies directly thanked for their participation.

Last week we welcomed:

It happened that on that day, according to our Catholic religion, as Poland is one of the well-recognized Catholic nations, was Shrew Thursday, so two of our wonderful Polish ladies (Ela & Beata) brought home-made FAWORKI, called Angel Wings  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angel_wings in English.

pbc3

At the time of the serving of those ANGEL WINGS, we were already aware of a fantastic opportunity to “test” our guests – a sensitive approach to charity actions.

One of our Polish friends, Piotr Janiw, during his five year stay in this country has developed into a very devoted bike rider (crazily so, I would say), and at the same time a photographer. Now based in Indonesia as an executive of a foreign company, Piotr brought us that night a big surprise – over 25 poster size prints of his photos taken during his trips around Indonesia – which he intended to share with interested guests.

pbc4

Recently he has been working on his blog site ( www.piotrjaniw.blogspot.com ), which I would recommend to all of you who would like to see Indonesia from a different prospective, that of an expat who has lived in many countries around the world before coming to Indonesia.

By pure coincidence, the gathering included Dan Roberts, the Founder and the Executive Director of the Yayasan Hidung Merah / the Red Nose Foundation, www.rednosefoundation.org

pbc5

We, as the Polish Business Club, had helped this organization to raise some founds in the past, therefore Dan arrived that night to our gathering to explore with us some options to raise some funds – their organization had been invited for the second time to Poland to take part in the Brave Kids Festival http://www.bravekids.eu/en/p/idea and naturally, funds are necessary to send Indonesian children to Poland.

Having those two people in the same room, with initially different purposes for being there, created a perfect opportunity to “to take an advantage of our guests” and sell Piotr’s prints and donate the funds to Red Nose.

Believe it or not, ALL of the prints were exchanged for the sum of 5,000,000 Rp, which will go to the Red Nose Foundation project of sending Indonesian children to Poland for the Brave Kids Festival.

I would like to thank our guest that night for their generosity. THANK YOU FOR YOUR BIG HEARTS.

If any of you would like to contribute to this project as well, please contact Dan Roberts at: dan@rednosefoundation.org

and if you would like ask Piotr about his sometimes crazy bike adventures, he is available at:

Cheers,

Fantastic atmosphere, very delicious food and quite a unique venue gave us an unforgettable evening .

Big thanks to the owners Yanti & Sezai and also to their dedicated staff.

As  this was a pre-Christmas gathering, we decided not to have any business presentation but instead a unique dancing  presentation given by a Belly Dancer. Some of us were in the right mood at that time, ready to join her and also have some extra quality time.

There is nothing more to add, but to wish you ALL a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Report from the XXIV Gathering

Report from the XXIV Gathering

Dear Members and Friends of the Polish Business Club in Jakarta.

It has been two weeks since we had our last gathering and I know I am quite late with my report. Ma’af.

We had a quite good time that Thursday but the number of our guests was lower that the regular 50 ++ guests as there were several other official functions in town that night. Our official count took us to 42 guests of whom 12 attended our Gathering for the first time.

Screen Shot 2015-11-15 at 6.03.38 PM

Before I start with the details from that event, I would like to thank once again our host, the Eastern Promise Bar & Resto www.epjakarta.com, for giving us once again perfect service and serving delicious food. Thank you EP.

The following companies were present :

www.shieldssecurity.com   www.kopexcontractors.co.id    www.lux4home.com     www.salutario.com

As you know from my previous reports, we have recently been struggling with securing a sponsor, but that night the Santa Fe Relocation Services  www.SantaFeRelo.com  presented to us an informative talk on ‘Property Management & Maintenance.”  Teddy Ragg, the Property Management Division Manager, introduced to us how the Company helps their customers.

Thank you Teddy and your company for sponsoring for us a “magic keg of beer.”

If you would like to know more about those services, please visit www.SantaFeRelo.com  or contact me to get full soft copy pf the presentation.

Unfortunately the size of it ( over 5 MB ) was to big to be send to all of you in this email.

During that event I have shared with our guests the good news related to our Club’s founding partner, the Trade and Investment Promotion Division of the Polish Embassy in Jakarta, and the First Counsellor, Mr. Romuald Morawski.

In recognition of his services for the development of the economy of the Republic of Poland,  Mr. Morawski has been awarded a badge of honor for his contribution to the development of economy of the Republic of Poland.

Screen Shot 2015-11-15 at 6.04.18 PM

On behalf of our Club and its members, I would like to congratulate Mr. Morawski for his achievements and also to thank him for his contribution in promoting the Polish Business Club across all of the provinces of Indonesia, as evident in the photo compilation below.

Screen Shot 2015-11-15 at 6.04.39 PM

Coming back to our last gathering, our guests had fun as usual and three new members joined the Polish Business Club. Welcome!

As our gatherings become more popular within Jakarta’s community, I would like to help you plan your time in early December and remind you that our next Gathering will take place on the 10th of December. The venue is still to be confirmed. We are considering a distinguished venue for the pre Christmas Party, but….. we are looking for a sponsor to enable that night to be extra special.

At the end of my report, please forgive me for bending a little our rule of not directly promoting other organizations and their events, but as a lover of good beer and delicious cheese I can’t help but forward to you a message from INA – Indonesian Benelux Chamber of Commerce. INA is organizing the Belgian Beer and Dutch Cheese tasting, which will be held on Wednesday, 18 November 2015 at the Raffles Hotel Kuningan.

Report from the XX Gathering

Report from the XX Gathering

Hello Members and Friends of the Polish Business Club in Jakarta.

Last Thursday we hosted our 20th gathering.

As part of Jakarta’s business community over three and half years, we managed to sign in over 130 members from 15 different nations and were able to welcome almost 1000 guests to our networking gatherings. Our gatherings were taking place in well known expat hangouts and we will be happy to expand and keep our standards at the highest level.

Last Thursday at the Eastern Promise www.epjakarta.com was a very unique one, with many pleasant and at the same time unexpected actions.

Screen Shot 2015-02-11 at 11.05.26 PM

It was not only the number of guests who turned up, although there were other evening gatherings taking place in Jakarta, but that we are keeping for the last few meetings an average attendance  of nearly 60 guests.

Looking at the “database” proved by the cork board we supplied at the EP, representatives of the following companies joined us that night (I include only those who have website addresses on their name cards ):

www.polclub.biz               www.jakarta.trade.gov.pl             www.dzakarta.msz.gov.pl               www.eurocham.or.id www.eibn.org                        www.hartrodt.co.id               www.sharefoundation.co             www.kopexcontractors.co.id       www.santafero.com               www.kellys-express.com               www.telstraglobal.com                 www.akitg.com                www.ciputraartpreneur.com        www.vmlqais.com           www.emedialab.net               www.ptbms.net www.veris-consulting.com           www.whatsnewjakarta.com               www.whatsnewbali.com

www.contromation.co.id              www.gramabazita.com                 www.mwgroup.net               www.itsecasia.com

www.limabintang.com                  www.indotruck-utama.co.id        www.wismaindonesia.com               www.RoyaleVIPBus.com

Based on our 20 gatherings’ experience and my observations at other events, this time I decided to express my personal opinion about the behavior of some of the attendees at any business-related gathering, official diplomatic function, art exhibition or even friendly party night, who show little or no respect to the presenters, announcers or even the private party hosts by continuing their chats with the person next to them at the same time an official speaker or presenter has the floor. My private opinion…….SHAME ON THEM.

Imagine yourself up at the front of an audience, trying to present your best prepared or just routine speech, being disrespected by a bunch of individuals, who every day call themselves “professionals.” You probably even do make these presentations on a regular basis. Do you like it when people talk while you’re presenting?

My general message that night was…….. SHOW RESPECT to our speakers and LISTEN to the presentations.

Yes, we had two presentations, delivered that night with complete silence in the audience and I think all of our guests enjoyed it because they all could hear it. Thank you all!

The First Secretary of the Trade & Investment Promotion Division of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland Tomasz Pietka presented:

Poland – the right course of action

A short presentation on Poland’s economy, trade and investment relations with Indonesia and plans of Trade & Investment Promotion Division of the Embassy of Poland in Jakarta for the year 2015.

Screen Shot 2015-02-11 at 11.05.18 PM

Just before the scheduled presentation, the First Counselor of the Trade & Investment Promotion Division, to my big surprise and even bigger satisfaction, unexpectedly presented to me an official letter, supported by the Polish Ministry of Economics, appreciating the activity of the Polish Business Club in Jakarta  in the field of building a solid relationship in business ties between Poland and Indonesia.

Acting as a non-profit organization, trying to establish and create a relationship based on our personal business contacts, Natalia, Marek and myself  ( the board of the Club ) were stunned,  since we have never been looking  for or expecting any recognition from the Polish Government regarding our activities.

Screen Shot 2015-02-11 at 11.05.00 PM

On behalf of Natalia and Marek and myself, a big thank you to the Polish Government.

The other part of the evening included a presentation by a member of our Club, who also responded voluntarily to promote his company during our event. Graham Garven, the Partner of  www.vdb-loi.com , gave us a presentation titled “Tax Advisor?! In Indonesia?!”: a brief outline of the Indonesian tax environment and how to comply. Those of you who have a second thought how to do it, visit the website  www.vdb-loi.com ,  see the attachment, or contact Graham directly.

Screen Shot 2015-02-11 at 11.04.50 PM

Thank you Graham for the presentation, and also I would like to thank your Company for sponsoring our Club with a “magic keg of beer “.

Coming to the end of my report, on behalf of Natalia, Marek and myself, I would like to extend big thanks to all of our Club supporters, regardless of nationality, for supporting our Club, which is an independent non-profit business-oriented networking organization.

Third Meeting of the Polish Business Club in Jakarta

Third Meeting of the Polish Business Club in Jakarta

Hello Members and Friends,

The third gathering of our Club, as you all know, took place last Thursday ( the 1st of March ) at Turquaz Resto in Senopati.

I would like to thank once again the owners of that place, Sezai & Yanti, for their fantastic hospitality that night. Delicious snacks with various beverages ( including Wyborowa ) resulted for all of us, I presume, in an enjoyable evening.

But not only that………..

For the first time, and I hope this will happen every time we meet from now on, we enjoyed two short presentations.

The first was done by Mr. Tomasz Piętka, the First Secretary of the Trade and Investment Promotion Section of the Polish Embassy in Jakarta, and was about trade cooperation between Poland and Indonesia and services offered by his office.

I think that many people present ( 33 to be exact ) were quite surprised with very positive data facts about Polish Economy and also found out that they also could seek some help from the Trade Section.

The second presentation was made by our guest, Mr. Michael Olsson, the owner of BMOlsson Group, who gave an overview of corruption, its types and methods, which can sadly be encountered while doing business in Indonesia. Mr. Olsson presented ideas how to react and sometimes easily avoid acts of pressure from corrupt officials representing the local government.

Before both presentations started, I officially welcomed two very important  members of our Club – the holder of the membership number 001, His Excellency the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland,  Mr.Grzegorz Wiśniewski, and number 002, the Head of Trade and Investments Promotion Section, Mr. Romuald Morawski. We also welcomed another guest of honor, Mr. Jackob Friis Sorensen, the Chairman of the European Chamber of Commerce.

From left to right: Jackob Friis Sorensen, Chairman of the EuroCham; Michael Olsson from BMOllson Group; His Excellency the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland, Mr Grzegorz Wiśniewski; myself; Councillor, Mr. Roman Morawski; I Secretary, Mr. Tomasz Piętka.

Also present at the gathering were not only other members of staff of the Polish Embassy and the Commercial Section, but also many guests who attended our gathering for the first time – they were not only Polish citizens but also four Indonesians, one Indian, two Australians, one Dutch, one French, one Turkish, one Swedish and two Americans.

Talking about numbers, as I have informed you in my last report, we have surpassed the number 50 in our membership counting.

Since August 2011 we have registered citizens of:

Poland: 32

Indonesia: 9

England: 2

France: 1

India: 1

Australia: 2

Sweden: 1

Denmark: 1

Canada: 1

The total number of our Club members is growing and we signed up two more on that Thursday evening.

So what is going to happen next in our Club activity?

I would like to continue with business oriented presentations during our next gathering, which I am planning to have in the second half of April. If you have some interesting stories you have experienced doing business in Indonesia and which you would like to share with us next time in a form of a 10 minute presentation – please let me know.  I think we would like to hear something original and interesting and I know this generally happens to us, working in Indonesia, every day.

Another thing I would like to bring up is sponsoring for next gatherings. As I have already told you, we as a Club are a non-profit organization. All of the funds gathered from the memberships go to the daily handling of the Club itself (rent of office, permits, name cards, ect.) and in the major part, subsidizing our members’ fees during gatherings. We do not charge for promoting your company on our website ( 440 unique visitors so far ) and we also pay by ourselves for participating in other Clubs’ meetings as well.

In this case making another step forward in expanding the Polish Business Club activity, I would like to ask you (your company ) to consider partial sponsorship of one of our next meetings.

A keg of beer, a few bottles of vodka, maybe some food ( we could organize a buffet dinner ) or even door prizes  could be an option to make our gatherings interesting even further and also  attractive to more guests. In exchange I would publish/ send to all of the members a .PDF of promotional materials related to your company.

We still have more than 6 weeks to the next Club evening, so take your time and have look at some more pictures from Thursday night at Turkuaz.

Cheers,

Andrzej ( Andy  )
