Invitation to our XXXVII Gathering

Invitation to our XXXVII Gathering

Dear Members and Friends of the Polish Business Club in Jakarta.
It has been over three months since our last gathering, during which we had followed up our January action for the Polish biggest charity organization – The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity www.en.wosp.org.pl/

As some of you might remember, we had raised over 75 mln IDR that night, and the final counting of money raised worldwide stopped at almost 25 mln USD.

Because that organization has been very active for the last 25 years helping Polish hospitals in buying equipment for Children Wards and recently for Geriatric Wards, some politicians in Poland have suggested the organization for the Noble Peace Award.
Following the popular action in Poland of taking a picture with the hashtag of the Orchestra logo, our guests during the last gathering also participated in that happening.

Regarding our next gathering, we are planning to move back to our presentation routine.
For the next evening we will have two interesting presentations:
One presented by Piotr Jakubowski the CMO of GO-JEK  www.go-jek.com  titled:
” GO-JEK: Out-innovating Global Competition “
The second presented by Chris Bulski the Managing Partner of PendopoLabs  www.pendopolabs.com, Polish – Indonesian consulting agancy titled:
“How PendopoLabs builds the Warsaw – Jakarta business bridge”.
So, those of you who will be in Jakarta on the 7th of September and are interested to expand your horizons and meet your friends,  please join us at the Eastern Promise Bar & Resto in Kemanghttp://www.epjakarta.com, where the Polish Business Club in Jakarta will hold its XXXVII Gathering.

Report from the XXXV Gathering

Report from the XXXV Gathering

Hello Members and Friends of the Polish Business Club in Jakarta.

I would like to inform all of you who could not join us during our last gathering at the end of March, that it was our last meeting with our ambassador H.E. Tadeusz Szumowski and his wife Agata, who have already returned to Poland to enjoy their retirement from diplomacy.
During their almost four years in Jakarta, we experienced the very warm atmosphere created by both of them within the Jakarta expat community and will remember them as very good representatives of the Polish culture.
Both of them visited our gatherings many times and once again I would like to thank them for being with us.
Those of you who will be in Jakarta on the 18th of May,  please join us at the Eastern Promise Bar & Resto in Kemang http://www.epjakarta.com, where the Polish Business Club in Jakarta will hold its XXXVI Gathering.
Best regards,
Andrzej / Andy

Report from the January 2017 Gathering

Dear Members and Friends of the Polish Business Club in Jakarta.

On behalf of the Polish Business Club in Jakarta, I would like to thank you all for your help in organizing and conducting the Saturday night (the19th of January) for the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity.

I would like to thank all those who came to our gathering and actively participated in our auctions and in rectifying the piggy banks.

This was a night of a great success and fun.

After gathering all the information on both the auction and donations and counting all the money (including those that are and will be paid directly to the account of the club) and the deduction of certain costs associated with the preparation of the auction we managed to raise for the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity – 75,498,000 Rp.

I am happy and also proud that we were able to perform such a great feat together. Here is a message of thanks from the founder, Jerzy Owsiak:

For those of you who would like to join us during our next Gathering, please mark your calendar on the 23rd of March. The venue will be confirmed and the reminder will reach you about two weeks before that date. Thanks again see you in March.

Cheers,

Andrzej / Andy

Report from December Gathering

Report from December Gathering

Dear Members and Friends of the Polish Business Club in Jakarta

This will be my last report this year and on this occasion I would like to wish you all the best in the coming year 2017.

Our last gathering which took place at Molly Malone’s Irish Pub in Senayan http://www.mollysjakarta.com/  secured us and our guests a pre-Christmas atmosphere. 30++ attendees enjoyed that evening with a lot of conversations, laughs, live music ( yes, the management of Molly’s surprised us with a live band ) and of course, the Christmas Edition of the Belvedere Vodka.

.

I think this short note will suffice for this time.   So……………………….…..

Report from September & October Gathering

Report from September & October Gathering

Hello Members and Friends of the Polish Business Cub in Jakarta.

I have been busy recently with traveling back and forth to Poland, so there was no time to create and send to you reports from our last two gatherings. I apologize for this and below I will try in a few words to recall to some of you who were present there and those who were not, that in September we started the sixth year of the activity of the Polish Business Club in Jakarta.

screen-shot-2016-12-30-at-8-43-19-pm

On this occasion, I would like once again to thank the Trade and Investment Promotion Division of the Polish Embassy, the Polish Embassy, and of course you all for supporting us during those five great years.

I would like to thank all of you who introduced to us in a form of presentations interesting fields of Indonesians daily routine ( due- diligence, corruption, IT safety, travel, drinking water, charity, job recruitment, taxes, social work in Papua, housing services and of course Polish – Indonesian trade exchange reports) and also those who sponsored us from time to time with a keg of beer.

Thank you.

I would like to thank almost one and a half thousand guests who visited us during our 30 gatherings.

Thank you all.

Our last two gatherings ( XXXI and XXXII ) had not attracted many guests (25 average ) but the atmosphere as usual was fantastic. Once again our friend Sunil from the Society Wines donated two bottles of wine, and we also spared two bottles of Zubrowka to our Lucky Draw winners.

Everybody had fun and new business connections were initiated.

I would like to thank once again our host the Eastern Promise Bar & Restaurant www.epjakarta.com, for hosting those two nights and for delicious food and professional service.

Foremost, I would like to thank our host on that night, the Eastern Promise Bar & Resto www.epjakarta.com , for once again perfect hospitality.

That day (14th of April) was a very popular party day in the city, so because of several other functions happening we could welcome only 35 guests. Among them was the Polish Ambassador to Indonesia, Mr. Tadeusz Szumowski, with his wife Agata; the representative of the Polish Trade and Investment Promotion Division, Mr. Tomasz Piętka; and also the Founder and Executive Director of Red Nose Foundation www.rednosefoundation.org , Mr. Dan Roberts.

As some of you might remember, during our last gathering we managed to collect 5,000,000 Rp to support 5 children from his foundation to go  Poland to take part in the International Brave Kids Festival http://2016.bravefestival.pl/ by selling photos taken and printed by our friend Piotr –   PIOTRJANIW.BLOGSPOT.COM

This time we sold only 3 photos for 900,000 Rp, but with the help of our other member Rob Davies and his generous gift, the Red Nose Foundation could raise much more money for the same purpose.

Rob, who is a football memorabilia collector, has donated his limited edition framed poster called “Class of 68”.

2016-05-11 14.13.18

This is a certified limited-edition poster printed on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the European Cup Final, played at Wembley on May 29 1968, between Benfica Lisbon and Manchester United, and won by MU 4 : 1.

This poster shows the medal collected by winners and also autographs of: Alex Stepney, Pat Crerand, Brian Kidd, John Aston, Bill Foulkes, Tony Dunne, Sir Bobby Charlton, David Sadler, Shay Brewnan, Nobby Stiles, Denis Law and George Best who played that game.

I hope that the value of this is very high for football enthusiasts and the charity donation will even double or triple it.

If you are interested in donating money for Red Nose Foundation by buying this poster please contact directly Dan at  dan@rednosefoundation.org

The moment we heard about Rob’s donation, this photo was taken as proof of the deal.

We had a fantastic time that evening with some new guests joining us at the EP Sports Bar for the first time.

So, to continue our networking quality time, I would like to invite you to join us at our XXVIII Gathering of the Polish Business Club in Jakarta.

See you at the next meeting on Thursday, the 26th of May, details to be included in email.

Report from the XXVI Gathering

Report from the XXVI Gathering

Last Thursday night was supposed to be just one of our regular gatherings, but a small coincidence created a fantastic outcome of the evening.

Let’s start from the beginning.

Our XXVI gathering – the first of this year – was hosted by Molly Malone’s and once again I would like to thank Trevor, the manager of Molly’s, his staff and also Killian & his wife Irene, the owners, who were also present there, for their perfect hospitality. Food and the service were excellent.

The evening, which unfortunately not many confirmed, still yielded a crowd of almost 40 and gave all of us, especially me, a lot of satisfaction.

Fuji_PBCFEB2016-2676Just to remind you: all of our guests who join us during our gathering and leave their name cards with the www link on it, will have their companies directly thanked for their participation.

Last week we welcomed:

It happened that on that day, according to our Catholic religion, as Poland is one of the well-recognized Catholic nations, was Shrew Thursday, so two of our wonderful Polish ladies (Ela & Beata) brought home-made FAWORKI, called Angel Wings  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angel_wings in English.

pbc3

At the time of the serving of those ANGEL WINGS, we were already aware of a fantastic opportunity to “test” our guests – a sensitive approach to charity actions.

One of our Polish friends, Piotr Janiw, during his five year stay in this country has developed into a very devoted bike rider (crazily so, I would say), and at the same time a photographer. Now based in Indonesia as an executive of a foreign company, Piotr brought us that night a big surprise – over 25 poster size prints of his photos taken during his trips around Indonesia – which he intended to share with interested guests.

pbc4

Recently he has been working on his blog site ( www.piotrjaniw.blogspot.com ), which I would recommend to all of you who would like to see Indonesia from a different prospective, that of an expat who has lived in many countries around the world before coming to Indonesia.

By pure coincidence, the gathering included Dan Roberts, the Founder and the Executive Director of the Yayasan Hidung Merah / the Red Nose Foundation, www.rednosefoundation.org

pbc5

We, as the Polish Business Club, had helped this organization to raise some founds in the past, therefore Dan arrived that night to our gathering to explore with us some options to raise some funds – their organization had been invited for the second time to Poland to take part in the Brave Kids Festival http://www.bravekids.eu/en/p/idea and naturally, funds are necessary to send Indonesian children to Poland.

Having those two people in the same room, with initially different purposes for being there, created a perfect opportunity to “to take an advantage of our guests” and sell Piotr’s prints and donate the funds to Red Nose.

Believe it or not, ALL of the prints were exchanged for the sum of 5,000,000 Rp, which will go to the Red Nose Foundation project of sending Indonesian children to Poland for the Brave Kids Festival.

I would like to thank our guest that night for their generosity. THANK YOU FOR YOUR BIG HEARTS.

If any of you would like to contribute to this project as well, please contact Dan Roberts at: dan@rednosefoundation.org

and if you would like ask Piotr about his sometimes crazy bike adventures, he is available at:

Cheers,

Fantastic atmosphere, very delicious food and quite a unique venue gave us an unforgettable evening .

Big thanks to the owners Yanti & Sezai and also to their dedicated staff.

As  this was a pre-Christmas gathering, we decided not to have any business presentation but instead a unique dancing  presentation given by a Belly Dancer. Some of us were in the right mood at that time, ready to join her and also have some extra quality time.

There is nothing more to add, but to wish you ALL a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Report from the XXIV Gathering

Report from the XXIV Gathering

Dear Members and Friends of the Polish Business Club in Jakarta.

It has been two weeks since we had our last gathering and I know I am quite late with my report. Ma’af.

We had a quite good time that Thursday but the number of our guests was lower that the regular 50 ++ guests as there were several other official functions in town that night. Our official count took us to 42 guests of whom 12 attended our Gathering for the first time.

Screen Shot 2015-11-15 at 6.03.38 PM

Before I start with the details from that event, I would like to thank once again our host, the Eastern Promise Bar & Resto www.epjakarta.com, for giving us once again perfect service and serving delicious food. Thank you EP.

As you know from my previous reports, we have recently been struggling with securing a sponsor, but that night the Santa Fe Relocation Services  www.SantaFeRelo.com  presented to us an informative talk on ‘Property Management & Maintenance.”  Teddy Ragg, the Property Management Division Manager, introduced to us how the Company helps their customers.

Thank you Teddy and your company for sponsoring for us a “magic keg of beer.”

If you would like to know more about those services, please visit www.SantaFeRelo.com  or contact me to get full soft copy pf the presentation.

Unfortunately the size of it ( over 5 MB ) was to big to be send to all of you in this email.

During that event I have shared with our guests the good news related to our Club’s founding partner, the Trade and Investment Promotion Division of the Polish Embassy in Jakarta, and the First Counsellor, Mr. Romuald Morawski.

In recognition of his services for the development of the economy of the Republic of Poland,  Mr. Morawski has been awarded a badge of honor for his contribution to the development of economy of the Republic of Poland.

Screen Shot 2015-11-15 at 6.04.18 PM

On behalf of our Club and its members, I would like to congratulate Mr. Morawski for his achievements and also to thank him for his contribution in promoting the Polish Business Club across all of the provinces of Indonesia, as evident in the photo compilation below.

Screen Shot 2015-11-15 at 6.04.39 PM

Coming back to our last gathering, our guests had fun as usual and three new members joined the Polish Business Club. Welcome!

As our gatherings become more popular within Jakarta’s community, I would like to help you plan your time in early December and remind you that our next Gathering will take place on the 10th of December. The venue is still to be confirmed. We are considering a distinguished venue for the pre Christmas Party, but….. we are looking for a sponsor to enable that night to be extra special.

At the end of my report, please forgive me for bending a little our rule of not directly promoting other organizations and their events, but as a lover of good beer and delicious cheese I can’t help but forward to you a message from INA – Indonesian Benelux Chamber of Commerce. INA is organizing the Belgian Beer and Dutch Cheese tasting, which will be held on Wednesday, 18 November 2015 at the Raffles Hotel Kuningan.

Post Summer Report

Post Summer Report

First of all I would like to apologize for this very late report, but as we say in Polish, “better late than not at all.” One of the reasons for that delay is that a few days after our gathering I was on my way to Poland.

Our XXIII gathering hosted for the 12th time by the Eastern Promise Bar and Resto www.epjakarta.com started our fifth year of activity. Officially, the Polish Business Club in Jakarta organized the first gathering in September 2011 at the Maroush Restaurant at Crowne Plaza Hotel and 26 guests attended that event, including 11 guests from the Polish Business Delegation. Four years and 22 gatherings later, almost 140 people from 18 different nations representing over forty different fields of business signed in as the Club’s members and over 1200 professionals attended our gatherings, with a rough average of 50++ per gathering.

PBCcollage3 PBCcollage4

The XXIII Gathering of the Polish Business Club in Jakarta had a slightly different format. The Polish Ambassador, Mr. Tadeusz Szumowski, and his wife were our guests that night. During his short speech, Mr. Szumowski mentioned the cultural exchange between Poland and Indonesia this summer, with the offer of full post-graduate and doctoral scholarships in Poland to 26 Indonesian students.

20150903_201115

Our universities and technical colleges will host Indonesian students who will study in Poland, for example Architecture at Cracow University of Technology, Mining Engineering at Wrocław University of Technology, Electronics and Information Technology at Warsaw University of Technology, Biomedical Engineering at Warsaw University, and many more.

Our second guest of honor was Mr. Romuald Morawski, the First Counsellor of the Trade and Investment Promotion Division of the Polish Embassy in Jakarta. In his short speech, Mr. Morawski pointed out the success of the relationship between his office and our Club, and also reminisced the first steps in establishing our Club four years ago with the help of his office.

DSC00999

That night was another success with almost 70 people in attendance. Great food prepared by chef Daniel, the presence of Żubrówka and Wyborowa and of course the attendance of fantastic people made for a fabulous atmosphere, with some guests leaving long after midnight.

My September trip to Poland involved attending the XVIII Economic Conference of the Polish Diaspora. This was my fourth time, and in my fourth presentation I talked about prospects of the Indonesian market and of course the role of the Polish Business Club in Jakarta in helping Polish and Indonesian companies in establishing business relationships (and by the way, there is a new company in town. PT. Pesona Mitra Indonesia, headed by our charming vice-chairwoman Natalia, specializes in helping Polish companies to start businesses in Indonesia. For more details please visit www.polindopartners.com).

Over 200 guests attended this three-day Conference in Warsaw and the city of Włocławek, including the Polish Foreign Minister, Mr. Grzegorz Schetyna, representatives of the Ministry of Industry, delegates to the European Parliament, and City Hall representatives of Włocławek.

Once again, this Conference showcased the interest of the Polish business-people, who are based in different countries around the world, in strengthening contacts to develop new businesses.

During that trip, courtesy of the Trade and Investment Promotion Division in Jakarta, I was invited to a dinner hosted by the Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Mr. Janusz Piechociński, on the occasion of the official visit of the Indonesian Trade Mission headed by the Minister of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Saleh Hasim.

The Polish side was represented not only by government officials from the Ministry of Economics and the Foreign Ministry but also by the representatives of the Polish companies willing to enter the Indonesian market. One of them was AQUA – LIFE www.aqua-life.pl, which is also a member of our Club and a producer of the water desalination equipment. During that dinner, I had a chance to talk with Mr. Saleh Hasim, introduced to him the role of the Polish Business Club in Jakarta, and also presented to him, on behalf of the Trade and Investment Promotion Division in Jakarta, a business directory published in Bahasa Indonesia and titled “Kenapa Polandia”.

DSC02172

Mr. Peter Gontha, the Indonesian Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Poland, in his official speech warmly welcomed the Polish Business Club in Jakarta as a bridge to a different format of business relationships between Polish and Indonesian businesses. I also presented the “Kenapa Polandia” publication to Mr. Gontha.

withpetergontha

I had a chance to also talk to the Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Mr. Janusz Piechociński, who I had met two years earlier during the XVI Polish Diaspora Conference. He explained to me how important the signing of several memoranda is to the Polish Trade. Memoranda were signed in the field of engineering, transport, shipbuilding, development of infrastructure, including seaports and fishing, chemical, textile, energy, green technology and agri-food sector to ease the export of Polish products to Indonesia and to balance our countries’ negative trade deficit. You can read about the Memoranda at: http://www.mg.gov.pl/node/24925  That event led me also to the follow-up visits to the Ministry of Economics and Indonesian Embassy where I learned more about the newly signed agreements.

Ending my long report, I would like to remind you that our Club’s next gathering will take place on the 20th of October 2015, and the place will be confirmed in my official invitation to be sent out in a couple of weeks.

Regards,

Andrzej / Andy
