22 Nov Polish Business Club Donates To Hand In Hand Indonesia
Dear members and Friends of the Polish Business Club in Jakarta.
It took us some time to finalize the handover but we did it on Saturday, November 10, 2012
As you might remember, during our 5th Gathering we auctioned a Polish national soccer team jersey with the autograph of one of the best Polish soccer players and current captain of the Polish National Team, Kuba Błaszczykowski.
The final price was 4,750,000 Rp and the winner of the auction was Brendan Pound.
Thank you Brendan once again.
Last Saturday together with three Jakarta International School students (Chae Yun, Min Ji and Leopoldine, grade 11 IB students) and Beata, the supervisor of the Hand by Hand Indonesia English B HL Service Project, we went to the local Indonesianelementary school to hand over all of the goods I have purchased on behalf of the Polish Business Club in Jakarta.
I have purchased 6 wall maps of the world, 6 wall maps of Indonesia, 3 volleyball balls, 3 exercise mats, 30 Indonesian–English picture dictionaries, 21 children‘s books in Bahasa Indonesia and some stationery supplies.
The school children were very happy with our donation as you could see in the picture below.
It would be great if we could keep supporting that school in the future as well.
156 children aged 6 to 12 of different socio-economic backgrounds, including 35 orphans, are very enthusiastic about learning so I think we still could help them out.
How about we all pitch in to organize a School Library for them?
I have received a list of books recommended by a professional Bahasa teacher, but out of almost 100 titles I have found only 21 of them available at Gramedia and Gunung Agung bookstores.
Because of the limited funds at this moment the project has (library book shelves need to be purchased), perhaps we could fill the shelves in another way? Perhaps some of you with Indonesian families may have at home some good used children’s books in Bahasa which you don’t need any more?
If you have any used children’s books, please respond to me directly and I will try to organize their transport to me first and later to the School Library. The students will greatly appreciate your book donation since they will have more options to build up their knowledge.
More pictures from the school are available below and on the official website of Hand by Hand Indonesia. The IB students from JIS visit the school several Saturdays a month to help Pak Firdaus, their English teacher, to help teach the children some English words and games.
Cheers,
Andrzej
